Mechanics

Game Informer's 2027 schedule lists at least 15 dated releases in February. These five are the big ones.[1] Here's what each game is, in one paragraph each. Every game has its own full breakdown, linked below.

Metro 2039 (Feb 4). 4A Games' story-driven survival shooter launches on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox on PC), a day later (Feb 5) in some territories including Asia, Australia and New Zealand.[2][3] New this time are Blueprints, which let you craft upgrades and attachments for weapons and gear.[3] Metro 2039 breakdown.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis (Feb 12). An Unreal Engine 5 remake of the 1996 original by Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog. Puzzles in areas like Peru's Lost Valley were redesigned from scratch, and spaces that once stood alone now connect into larger environments.[4] Tomb Raider breakdown.

God of War Laufey (Feb 16). The PS5's only exclusive in the window. You play as Faye (Laufey), Kratos' wife, in the Everywhen, the afterlife of the gods. Combat mixes a sword, Jรถtnar magic and the Serpent Bow, which has a precise full-aim mode and a hip-fire half-aim mode.[6][7] Sony says it works as a standalone story, though it recommends God of War (2018) and Ragnarรถk for full context.[6] God of War Laufey breakdown.

Persona 4 Revival (Feb 18). A full remake of the 2012 RPG with enhanced visuals, improved gameplay and quality-of-life updates. The turn-based battles, the school-year calendar and the social bonds are all still there.[8][9] Persona 4 Revival breakdown.

Fable (Feb 23). Playground Games' open-world action RPG reboot. You get melee, ranged and magic combat, a reputation that each villager tracks, and a life sim layer with property, jobs, romance and kids.[10][11] Fable breakdown.

Our read: the five barely overlap in genre: a linear shooter, a puzzle-heavy action remake, a character-action game, a turn-based JRPG and an open-world RPG. They compete less for the same player than for the same time and money. That's why this guide focuses on the wallet.

Tech

Performance details are uneven across the five. Here's what's actually been confirmed:

  • Metro 2039: a 60fps Performance Mode with ray tracing at launch on PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X.[2] Xbox Series S isn't named in that promise.
  • God of War Laufey: PlayStation lists it as PS5 Pro Enhanced, using PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) for sharper 4K image quality.[6] Sony hasn't published frame-rate modes.
  • Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis: Unreal Engine 5, and the Switch 2 version launches the same day as the others.[4] No resolution or frame-rate targets have been published.
  • Persona 4 Revival and Fable: no resolution or frame-rate targets announced. Both are Xbox Play Anywhere titles (buy once, play on Xbox console and PC) and both stream through Xbox Cloud.[9][11]

The cloud catch. From November 2026, Xbox Cloud Gaming has monthly hour limits: 15 hours with Game Pass Ultimate, 10 with Premium and 5 with Essential. You can buy more time, but Microsoft hasn't published prices yet.[15] Our read: if you plan to stream two long RPGs in the same month, 15 hours won't go far. Treat the cloud as a way to sample a game, not to finish it. See our cloud hour-cap breakdown.

Business

How the month filled up. At least two of these games moved into February. Fable was pushed out of 2026 in late May 2026, after earlier slips from 2025 to 2026, and got its February 23 date at the Xbox Games Showcase in June.[12] Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis moved from a 2026 window to February 12 when its Switch 2 version was announced.[5] Grand Theft Auto VI, meanwhile, launches November 19, 2026.[17]

Analysis: no publisher has said it moved to avoid GTA 6, so we won't claim that. Still, the pattern fits a common strategy: avoid a launch that will take up most players' time and money, and pick a post-holiday window. The cost is that these games now compete with each other instead.

Pricing has settled at $69.99, with one exception. Four of the five have a $69.99 Standard Edition. Tomb Raider undercuts them at $59.99.[5][6][8][10][14] None of them matches GTA 6's $79.99 (see our GTA 6 breakdown). The upsell has moved to premium editions instead:

  • Fable Premium, $99.99: five days of early access (from Feb 18), the post-launch story expansion Order of the Hero, cosmetics, a digital artbook and soundtrack.[10][13]
  • Metro 2039 Deluxe, $99.99: a post-launch Story Expansion DLC plus a digital artbook and soundtrack.[3][14]
  • Tomb Raider Deluxe, $69.99: 48 hours of early access, an outfit and a post-launch DLC story pack.[5]
  • God of War Laufey: a Digital Deluxe Edition (armor, weapon cosmetics, artbook, soundtrack), plus a $149.99 Collector Box that doesn't include the game.[6][7]

Platform strategy. All five games are on PS5. Four are also on Xbox, and only God of War Laufey is exclusive. Microsoft is shipping its own flagship, Fable, day one on PS5 while also putting it in Game Pass.[10][11] It also has a third-party Game Pass launch in Persona 4 Revival.[9] Our read: February is a clean test of whether day-one subscription access hurts full-price sales on other platforms, with Fable sold at $69.99 on PS5 and included with Game Pass on Xbox and PC in the same week.

Three ways to play the month (our math, from the prices above):

  • PS5 only, buy everything: $339.95. PS5 is the only platform that gets all five.
  • Xbox with Game Pass Ultimate: buy Metro and Tomb Raider ($129.98) and get Fable and Persona through one month of Ultimate ($22.99), for $152.97. That's four games. God of War isn't on Xbox.[15]
  • PC with PC Game Pass: the same four games for $129.98 plus one month of PC Game Pass ($13.99 in the US), so $143.97.[18]

Timing tip (our read): Persona 4 Revival (Feb 18) and Fable (Feb 23) arrive five days apart, so one Game Pass billing month started on or just before February 18 covers both launches. Game Pass members who want Fable's early access can buy the Premium Edition Upgrade without buying the full game.[13]

Pre-order or wait?

  • The pre-order bonuses are small cosmetic or convenience items: Metro's Specialist Pack blueprints, Tomb Raider's Survivor Outfit, God of War's Last Wish armor, Persona's P3R and P5R music set (pre-order by Feb 17), and Fable's Chicken Suit and gifts.[3][4][6][8][13] None of them is a reason to buy early.
  • Paying for early access makes sense only if you also want what else comes in the bundle. Fable's extra $30 includes the expansion, and Tomb Raider's extra $10 includes a DLC story pack.[5][13]
  • With five games in 19 days, buying one or two at launch and picking up the rest after reviews is a reasonable plan. Prices aren't going up, and you don't need any of these on day one.

Switch 2 owners: Tomb Raider (Feb 12) is the only Switch 2 game of the five in February. Persona 4 Revival comes to Switch 2 on May 20, 2027.[4][16]

Long-term outlook

Analysis: February 2027 shows what the multiplatform era looks like at release-calendar scale. Four of five major games ship day one on both PS5 and Xbox, and the platform holder's own RPG, Fable, ships on its rival's console. Exclusivity is now the exception, so decisions come down to price, subscriptions and early-access editions more than to which console you own.

Crowded windows tend to shift. Any of these five could still move, and a delay in one would ease pressure on the others. Strong sales for all five would tell publishers that a packed February isn't a problem. If one of them underperforms, expect future calendars to spread out more. We'll update this guide whenever a date, price or edition changes.
