PC & PC Handhelds: The Future
Steam, Epic, Xbox on PC, SteamOS and Windows handhelds.
The PC market is changing shape. Valve's Steam Machine brought a living-room SteamOS PC to market from $1,049, with sales starting June 29, 2026, through a randomized reservation queue (see our Steam Machine vs. PS5 Pro vs. PC breakdown).[The Verge] Microsoft is meanwhile bringing a full-screen, controller-first "Xbox mode" to Windows 11 (first seen on the ROG Xbox Ally handhelds), and the Xbox Play Anywhere catalog has passed 1,500 games.[Xbox Wire]
Our read: the line between PC and console is blurring from both directions. Valve is moving PCs into the living room, and Microsoft is making Windows behave more like a console.
